In areas where the ground under the lawn is poor, usually because the builder left concrete there, you can improve the lawn by cutting it into strips, rolling it back, removing the underlying rubble then replacing it with a mixture of ordinary compost and wormcast before rolling the turf back. The difference will show up within a few months.
